From Qatar the story behind the Class 1 World Powerboat Championship.

In 2004 His Excellency Sheikh Hassan bin Jabor al Thani, a member of the Qatar Ruling Family, sets off on a journey. His aim is to become World Champion at what many regard as the most extreme power sport on the planet. It’s a treacherous voyage, luck is not with him, but two years on the desire deepens and the will to succeed still inspires a Nation. Class1 is the pinnacle of powerboat racing and although money is relevant in keeping up with today’s top players – it’s not the key. This is a team game. Before however you can picture the enormity of the challenge it is necessary to consider the implication. Just for a moment imagine yourself in the enclosed cockpit of a 5 ton racing machine so complicated it takes 2 onboard drivers working together to control it. One throttles – the other steers. Screaming behind you two one thousand horsepower engines thrusting you at 300 kilometres an hour across a surface that never stays still. No brakes! The flag is raised, throttles down, the breathtaking charge to the first mark begins. 10 boats and one objective… to arrive first. When it goes wrong it’s terrifying. “All this for the Love of Speed and Power”.
